In solidarity with the global community, Girls Shall Grow proudly commemorates International Day of the Girl (IDG) this October 11th, spotlighting the pivotal theme “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being.” This emblematic day is steeped in the mission to uplift and empower girls, positioning them unequivocally at the vanguard of transformative change initiatives. It resonates with a call to heed their voices, resolve their concerns, and embed them firmly in decision-making trajectories.
The stage is set for young girls to not only participate but to preside over webinars, steering discussions on global issues and thereby, magnifying their perspectives and narratives. The words of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres echo profoundly in our endeavors: “Women and girls can lead us to a fairer future. Let’s amplify girls’ voices and recommit to collaborating in creating a world where every girl can lead and flourish.”
At Girls Shall Grow, our alliance with numerous local and international organizations fuels our dedication to the empowerment of young girls, particularly in Obuasi, in the Ashanti region of Ghana. Our advocacy extends to pivotal issues such as menstrual hygiene, and through fund-raising efforts, we are establishing pad banks in secondary schools, aiming to mitigate the challenges that vulnerable young girls often encounter.
Our engagement takes shape in robust anti-teenage pregnancy campaigns propagated through various media channels, with an aim to illuminate young girls on their rights and empower them to navigate through barriers, thriving across diverse domains. Our offering of career guidance, especially an encouragement towards “STEM” courses—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics—is designed to arm girls with the requisite knowledge and confidence to emerge as future problem solvers and leaders, not only within the scientific sphere but across an array of fields.
Together with our partners, we extend a call to governments and institutions, advocating for their invaluable support for this noble and imperative cause. Girls Shall Grow envisions a future where girls possess the authority to shape government policies, allocate spending, steer business operations, and establish research priorities.
Empowering young girls is a collective responsibility, transcending organizational and geographical boundaries, and we warmly extend an invitation to all to unite with us in this crucial journey toward enabling a future where every girl is imbued with the power to lead and prosper.
