MasterCard Foundation and Innovation Village Future of Work Accelerator Program

Application Deadline: January 31st 2020

The Innovation Village in collaboration with MasterCard Foundation is launching an Accelerator program that will support promising technology startups to increase workforce access, readiness and success.

The Innovation Village is looking for promising startups that are developing solutions aligned to:

Track 1- Job creation and Opportunity matching
Track 2- Leveraging technology to create jobs for all

Today job creation lies at the heart of Uganda’s development challenge. About 400,000 youths enter annually into the job market to compete for approximately 9,000 available jobs. More so, 30% of the qualified youths are unable to find jobs, and the situation is even worse for semi-skilled and unskilled youths.
The causes of unemployment in Uganda are believed to be multifaceted, ranging from low skilled workers, lack of market-ready skills to match the evolving nature of work, and inadequate investment/supply side of jobs.

The Artistic Mind of a Criminal

I used to have a client who is a professor when it comes to art, paintings and antiques. He paints one portrait and makes millions out of it and that really fascinated me so much that I started doing some research into the Art, paintings and antiques industry. I discovered that the painting industry in Ghana is very small and young but elsewhere in the world, it is a huge industry which contributes significantly to the economy of these countries. The USA economy in 2014 and 2015 benefited US$730 billion and US$763.6 billion respectively from the Art, Paintings and Antiques sector(1). US$12 billion (£9.2 billion) was contributed to the UK GDP in 2016 from the Art and Painting sector(2) with Singapore’s Art and Painting contributing S$2.13 billion to the GDP in 2013(3).
