NGO Embarks  On “Child Protection Campaign”  (CPC) School Tour

As part of its campaign for the year 2021 and beyond, Watch Your Tongue Foundation Ghana,   a non-governmental organisation begins its first school tour.

The campaign which is aimed at strengthening the country’s child protection system to prevent and respond appropriately to child abuse issues and its effects on their school performance and general lifestyle was launched at Amnesty International Ghana on Thursday, March 25, 2021.
A team of volunteers led by the founder of the foundation, Sergeant Daniel Kwasi Ofori – Appiah, was invited by Mr. David Nii Armah Tetteh, (the Guidance and Counselling Coordinator of the school) to Kpone Community Senior High School in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 to sensitize students on the need to be protected as well also avoid criminal activities as children, as part of the school’s 2020/2021 academic year’s orientation program for about 300 first-year students.
The team was warmly welcomed by the headmaster of the school, Mr. Wiafe Akenten who congratulated the team and encouraged the team to do more to help Ghanaians especially the youth.

It could be recalled in June 2020 that a Senior High Student from Eguafo in the Central Region of Ghana was involved in a crime of kidnapping two children aged five and six years whiles on Education, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in 2019 expressed worry about the decline in candidates performance in three core subjects of which English language saw a decline from 52. 24 percent to 46.79. Integrated Science saw a decline from 52.89 to 50.48 whiles Mathematics dropped from 41.66 to 38.15.

The founder of Watch your foundation Ghana, Sergeant Daniel Ofori – Appiah, saw these phenomena and other related issues as worrying, hence his decision to honour the invitation by the school for the sensitisation.
Addressing students on the theme “Watch Your Tongue and build a better future”,  Sergeant  Ofori – Appiah advised students to develop a positive mindset towards their studies as that is the only way to their academic success as well as to help in crime prevention amongst Juveniles.

He stressed on the four thematic educational concepts by the foundation,( Think Right, Speak Right, Act Right and Write Right ) as those are the only ways to guide them in their academic journey.

Other speakers including the Chief Executive Officer of Team Blaze Foundation, Mr. Seth Adu Mensah, spoke on the role of parents in children’s upbringing and Miss Priscilla Awinbe Kusaah, the Deputy Women’s coordinator also advised the female students on women empowerment. She admonished female students to be wary of practices that could result in unfortunate results such as teenage pregnancy and school dropouts.
