No Time to Waste: 350 Ghana Calls on Ghanaians to Champion Land Restoration This World Environment Day!

In honor of World Environment Day 2024, themed “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience,” 350 Ghana Reducing Our Carbon (350 Ghana) is urging Ghanaians to take action to combat desertification and build drought resilience.

Land degradation, deforestation, and unsustainable land management practices significantly contribute to desertification, reducing land productivity and increasing communities’ vulnerability to droughts.
350 Ghana plays a crucial role in promoting land restoration and drought resilience through its advocacy for renewable energy solutions. By providing solar-powered bulbs, streetlights, and clean cookstoves to communities, 350 Ghana helps reduce dependence on fossil fuel and firewood and other unsustainable practices that contribute to land degradation.

In a statement, Portia Adu Mensah, the National Coordinator of 350 Ghana, emphasized the urgency of the situation. “We are running out of time to restore our lands before the effects of desertification become irreversible,” she said. “We all have a role to play in protecting our environment and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.”

Charles Wundengba, the Communications Manager for 350 Ghana, echoed Mensah’s sentiment and called on Ghanaians to take action.

“Even small changes in our daily lives can make a big difference,” Wundengba said. “By switching to renewable energy sources, planting trees, and conserving water, we can all contribute to land restoration and drought resilience.”
