In a remarkable move towards women’s empowerment and economic independence, the Appianin-Bonsec Fun Club has taken a significant stride by providing interest-free loans totaling GH₵100,000 to 100 women in Obuasi. Each beneficiary received GH₵1,000 to bolster their businesses and contribute to their households’ stability.
Kofi Appianin Ennin, the President of the club, emphasized the initiative’s objective: “Our goal is to empower women to support their businesses and homes, ensuring domestic peace and reducing dependence on major employers like AngloGold Ashanti. By absorbing the loan interest, we enable these women entrepreneurs to repay only the principal amount, making it a sustainable model of financial support.”
The club, co-founded by Joseph Bonsu and Kofi Appianin Ennin in May 2022, initially supported 50 women and has now extended its reach to 100, reflecting its growing commitment to community upliftment. Ennin adds, “In addition to financial aid, we focus on skill training for our members, ensuring a holistic approach to empowerment.”
Felicia Frema, a beneficiary from Bogobiri, expressed her gratitude, “This timely financial support has been a godsend for my business. It alleviates the financial burden not just on me, but also on my husband, who has other relatives to care for. With this loan, I can invest more in my trading business.”
Another recipient, Joyce Adusei, highlighted a crucial aspect of the initiative: “Financial independence for women is not just about business. It directly impacts domestic life, often preventing marital abuse, which is sadly linked to financial dependency. An economically empowered woman not only contributes to her home but also commands respect.”
The beneficiaries collectively extended their blessings to the club’s president and encouraged others to join the club for its significant community benefits.
