11-Year Old Thrift Store Owner Launches Face Mask Sewing Challenge

11-Year Old Thrift Store Owner Launches Face Mask Sewing Challenge

Obocho Peters made headlines late last year for being the first 11-year old entrepreneur to own a thrift store in Brooklyn, New York. Now, he’s making headlines again for pivoting his business to launch a face mask sewing challenge.
Obocho is learning early on that when the economy tanks, that means its time to explore new options. And so in response to the global coronavirus outbreak, he has already shifted to learning how to sew what America needs most right now – face masks.

On his YouTube channel, he has already launched a face mask sewing challenge where he has challenged himself to make at least 100 masks over the weekend. At that rate, he’d be producing 100 face masks every three days or so, and we have no reason to doubt his ability to do so.

In the YouTube video, his mom can be seen patiently training him exactly how to do it. Obocho admits that it’s not easy, but he seems to be very much up to the challenge in the video.

Obocho is no stranger to big achievements and making headlines for doing so. In December 2019, his story about opening his Obocho’s Closet thrift store was covered all over the world by major outlets like People Magazine, Blavity, Fox 5 NY, Black Enterprise, CBS New York, and more. He was even a featured guest on The View and the Wendy Williams Show.

He was actually only 9-years old when he first launched the venture online to help low-income families find affordable clothing for their children. But when he turned 11, he decided to open a physical location in Brooklyn.
