Forbes Reveals Africa’s Richest People in 2021

The average worth of Africa’s 18 billionaires is $4.1 billion, 12% more than a year ago, caused in part by Nigeria’s surging stock market. For the 10th year in a row, Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote is the continent’s richest person, who is worth $12.1 billion. He went up by $2 billion from last year’s list which can be attributed to a roughly 30% rise in the share price of Dangote Cement, which is his most valuable asset. The second richest person in Africa is Nassef Sawiris of Egypt, whose has a 6% stake in sportswear maker Adidas. At third place is Nicky Oppenheimer of South Africa, who inherited a stake in diamond company DeBeers and was in charge of the company until 2012, when he sold his family’s 40% share in DeBeers to AngloAmerican for $5.1 billion.
