Art Moves Africa: Call for Researchers-Mobility and Touring in West Africa

Art Moves Africa (AMA) is an international not-for-profit organization that aims to facilitate cultural and artistic exchanges within Africa.AMA offers grants to artists and cultural practitioners living and working in Africa to travel within the African continent in order to engage in the exchange of information, the enhancement of skills, the development of informal networks and the pursuit of cooperation.

In view of strengthening knowledge and information-sharing about mobility and touring in Africa, AMA has to date commissioned fourregional mapping studies: two focusing on mobility in East Africa(2011/2015); one focusing on Central Africa (2015) and one on North Africa (2019).

After the success of its research initiatives to date,AMA is launching a new study that will focus on West Africa.The study will aim to understand the factors that drive the strong dynamics of mobility consistently observed in West Africa, while also highlighting existing obstacles and articulating recommendations to further strengthen existing dynamism.

To this end,AMA is recruiting a team of researchers who will collaborate with the Research Coordinator to elaborate the study.The study will cover a period of five months, from February to June 2020.Researchers will be expected to submit their final reports by late June 2020. The research will be desk-based.

Tasks:
•Identification and mapping of available infrastructure and human resources;
•Identification and analysis of opportunities and major obstacles to mobility in WestAfrica;
•Proposal of feasible and practical solutions to strengthen/diversify/enrich mobility in West Africa.

Qualifications:
•Must be West African and/or based in West Africa
•Deep knowledge of artistic networks and dynamics in at least one of the following disciplines: visual arts; theatre & storytelling; music; dance; literature and/or cinema
•Solid research experience (academic, institutional, journalistic, etc.)
•Ability to conduct interviews and strong writing skills in English and/or French

All applicants will be notified of results by February 1, 2020.

Interviews with pre-selected candidates will be held on Friday, February 7.
Selected researchers will be expected to begin working in mid-February.
