Julia Collins, the co-founder and CEO of Zume Pizza, and her partner Alex Garden, have just scored a $50 million investment for their innovative company which uses robots to make ready-to-order healthy pizzas. Her company is being called the “perfect marriage of food and technology” and “a seamless blend of art and science” for the $25 billion pizza industry.
The company has a patented cooking en route technology that is the world’s first ever Baked-on-the-Way (#BOTW) vehicle, ensuring that customer’s pizzas arrive fresh from the oven. Even more, the pizzas are very healthy with non-GMO ingredients used from local farms. Even the pizza box itself is made from 100% sugarcane fiber and is totally biodegradable and compostable.
Zume Pizza, is based in Mountain View, California, and currently only services parts of the San Francisco Bay area. But their bigger plan to expand their services nationwide, and then internationally.
“We want to make sure everyone has access to high-quality, affordable food,” Julia says. “We wanted to identify places where humans were overtaxed physically, bored, or whether the job they were doing was not safe, like sticking their hand into a 600-degree oven for six hours a day.”
