Fly Zipline drone project granted $10.1m Tax Waiver by Parliament

Fly Zipline Ghana Limited has been granted a $10.1 million tax waiver for their medical products drone delivery project.

The waiver applies to products to be acquired under the service agreement between the Ministry of Health of Ghana and Fly Zipline Ghana Limited.

The Health Ministry represents the government of Ghana in the service agreement.

Fly Zipline Ghana Limited will deliver emergency health and blood products to public health facilities.

In December 2018, the Majority in parliament approved an agreement to allow the use of drones to distribute essential drugs and blood to health facilities across the country.

The Minority, however, questioned why Fly Zipline was sole-sourced for the $12 million project as it also claimed the deal was bloated.

Although Minority voted against the approval, the Majority used its numbers to approve the deal.

A report by the Finance Committee laid before Parliament on Wednesday recommended that the House greenlights the tax waiver, which the plenary approved.
