Ghana Tech and Innovation week (GTIW), the first premium technology event to showcase and promote excellence in mainstream technology solutions and innovations in Ghana has been launched. According to Tech TV presenter, Zulaiha Dobia Abdullah, the event seeks to recognize, celebrate and promote pacesetters, including tech leaders, tech enthusiasts, tech influencers and tech professionals.
Speaking at the launch, Emmaline Datey, CEO of Impact Concepts and Solutions (ICS) Africa said the event has been long overdue and attention must be paid to tech innovation in Ghana even after the celebration of the Ghana Tech and Innovation Week.

“This has been long overdue. We actually respect those of our brothers and sisters who have led the way in starting tech innovation-related events. And we are hoping that it doesn’t just end at Ghana Tech Innovation Week. We are actually hoping to have that linkage between the government and the community in Ghana, to bring about the experience (and) the excellence needed in spearheading investment in technology and innovation in Ghana. We are really behind time when it comes to tech Innovation” she said.
Adib Sanni, a Security Analyst revealed that tech is now the best way to provide security for Ghanaians. According to him, there is a technology that protects your home when you are not around and could even send you notifications if someone tries to break into your home. He added that technology could also help us to solve murder cases.

“I perused a certain document published by the Ghana Police Service last year. And it indicated that of the 306 murder cases reported to the police for the first half of last year, guess how many have been solved? One. And on annual bases, about 600 people are killed every year. And these are those reported to the police” he said.
“I have personally had an opportunity to speak with investigators in Ghana and they told me that most of their investigation process is manual. They don’t use technology. When you go to other jurisdictions, they have what we call biometric technology. So once I come here, I might have touched lots of surfaces and you dust and collect the fingerprints and run it in a database” he added.
“In the US, for example, they have what they call the CODIS, it is the central DNA system. So if you have been an offender before, you automatically enter the system, because the possibility of repeat of offense is quite high. So when there is a crime, they run your DNA and that is what helps them” he concluded.
Gabriel Herman, Creative Director of the GTIW and CEO of Blaqorigin Multimedia Productions and Tech TV officially launched the event.
