Girls Shall Grow NGO Celebrates International Women’s Day with a Call to Embrace Equity and Empowerment

On this International Women’s Day, Girls Shall Grow joins the world in celebrating the achievements of women around the globe. We recognize the immense progress made in the fight for gender equality, while acknowledging the persistent challenges that still exist.

As we focus on #DigitAll:Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality, we urge individuals, institutions, governments, and society at large to create spaces that allow women to develop themselves in technology and contribute their best to national development. The time to embrace equity and empowerment is now.

Girls Shall Grow recognizes the importance of engaging women in development, including the world of technology. We understand that investing in women’s human capital is key to unlocking their potential to become leaders, entrepreneurs, and agents of change. However, we also recognize that women face intersecting biases which negatively impact their potential, retention, and progress in most work environments.

We are calling on all stakeholders to support our efforts to close the funding gap for women entrepreneurs in Africa, which the African Development Bank estimates at $42 billion. By providing funding, training, leadership, and innovation, we can inspire young girls to pursue groundbreaking tech innovations and transformations that open their countries and the continent to the global community.

We celebrate the achievements of African women in tech, such as Odunayo Eweniyi, Rebecca Enonchong, Farida Bedwei and many others who have made significant contributions to African tech while inspiring young girls to do the same.

As we commemorate International Women’s Day, let us work together to accelerate gender equality and empowerment today for a more sustainable tomorrow. Let us embrace equity and celebrate the awesome women of today who will lead us into a brighter future.
