“How do I become a successful entrepreneur?” (By Dr. Daniel McKorley)

“How do I become a successful entrepreneur?” (By Dr. Daniel McKorley)

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been asked this question. And every time, before I try to share what I know with whoever is asking that question, I tell them the reality that there is no magic way that can transform you into a rich and successful entrepreneur overnight. In the real world of business, things are never quite as black and white. What works for someone might not work for you.

But no matter what path you take as an entrepreneur, it’s important to always keep learning. To stay relevant, hungry and motivated as an entrepreneur, it’s important to make a lifelong commitment to education and growth. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to go back to grad school or pursue a formal education, but that you need to continue learning from others, and the world around you.

You must understand that there are always new skills to learn and techniques for you to adopt. When you look at the most successful people in the world, they understand this. They don’t act like they know everything. Yes, they have the passion, resourcefulness, the willingness to improvise, the ability to listen to critique and the will to succeed regardless of the countless setbacks, but they also know that they must learn new knowledge and skills to adapt, evolve and survive.

So as the weekend comes, understand that there are limitless opportunities from which to learn and grow in your craft. Books, online seminars, blog posts, YouTube videos; most of these resources are available for free. Take advantage of it.
