A new year means new resolutions and new beginnings. This year, try supporting local coffee shops instead of the massive chains, like Starbucks and Caribou Coffee. Check out this list of our top Black-owned coffee shops to visit in the U.S.

1. Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse
   Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
   The first female and Black-owned comic store (that also happens to be a coffee shop), Amalgam is an inclusive and safe space for comic book fans and coffee lovers alike.

2. Red Bay Coffee
   Oakland and Fruitvale, California
   Red Bay Coffee has a few different locations across Oakland and Fruitvale—one of which serves coffee out of a shipping container! The company is doing so well that the owner plans to expand to 15 different cities in 5 years.

3. Sip & Savor
   Chicago, Illinois
   13 years ago, Trez Pugh III opened Sip & Savor. There are now five locations all around Chicago. The shops all use Fair Trade Certified coffees.
