Toyota’s Sport Crossover EV, Developed with BYD, to Electrify Europe in 2025

Toyota, a name synonymous with innovation in the automotive industry, is gearing up with its latest offering, the Sport Crossover EV. Developed in partnership with China’s leading EV manufacturer, BYD, this fastback-style electric vehicle is set to revolutionize the market and captivate first-time EV buyers in Europe come 2025.

Targeting a demographic of young, environmentally conscious buyers, Toyota aims to deliver a blend of style, space, and sustainability. With its five-door design and capacious interiors, the vehicle is poised to meet the dynamic needs of modern consumers.

The joint venture, known as the BYD Toyota EV Tech Co, combines Toyota’s expertise in vehicle design and engineering with BYD’s cutting-edge battery technology and electric powertrains. The result is an EV that promises not only exceptional performance but also groundbreaking efficiency.

The Sport Crossover’s underpinnings reveal a shared heritage with the bZ3 EV, Toyota and BYD’s previously launched electric sedan in China. Based on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, also used in the bZ4X electric SUV, the Sport Crossover integrates BYD’s innovative Blade LFP batteries and sophisticated electric motor and control system. This symbiosis of technology is expected to deliver an unparalleled driving experience.

Toyota has also announced plans to introduce five new EVs by 2026, with the Urban SUV Concept leading the charge next year. Positioned as Toyota’s most affordable EV, the Urban SUV Concept aims to compete with established players like the Volvo EX30, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Jeep Avenger.
