Gold Mining started in Obuasi in 1897. The Obuasi Mine is among the top 9 largest gold mines in the world. Johannesburg area was also first declared open for public digging (mining) in 1886.
Over 100 years of mining in both cities, the gap between these cities in terms of infrastructure is very huge.
Johannesburg has seen massive infrastructural development whiles the story in Obuasi is quite different.
