The GLOMO awards recognize outstanding achievements across a range of categories, including Mobile Technologies, Digital Everything, Devices, Tech4Good, and Government Leadership. Some biggest names in the industry took home awards. Among the winners were Apple, TCL, and Motorola.
Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro took home the award for “Best Smartphone”, beating out other contenders like the Google Pixel 7 Pro, Nothing Phone (1), Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4, and Galaxy Z Fold4. The award recognizes smartphones that demonstrate outstanding performance, innovation, and leadership, based on assessments by leading independent analysts, journalists, and influencers between January and December 2022.
In the “Disruptive Device Innovation” category, Apple won again with its Emergency SOS via Satellite feature. This feature allows users to communicate in emergency situations without requiring any special hardware. This innovation has already inspired T-Mobile’s partnership with SpaceX to fill dead zones within the US, and MediaTek’s announcement that its future chipsets will support satellite data connections. Other contenders for the award included Google’s Tensor 2 chip, Qualcomm Snapdragon, and Sony’s IMX989 Camera Sensor.
Another award related to satellite communication went to the Motorola Defy Satellite Link by Bullit, which won the “Best in Show” award. This device uses Bluetooth to interface with a smartphone and can send SMS messages anywhere with a clear view of the sky. The device is powered by MediaTek silicon. Other contenders in this category included the Honor Magic Vs, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and Oppo Find N2 Flip.
In this category, a select group of judges physically assessed the best products on show and presented the award directly at the winning organization’s stand. The GLOMO awards are a celebration of excellence in the mobile industry, recognizing the companies and products that are leading the way in innovation and creativity.
