ACCRA, Ghana, April 15, 2025/ — EXPLORCO, the exploration division of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), is set to spud its first exploration well in the Voltaian basin in Q1 2026, targeting new leads and play-opening discoveries. The company is currently conducting research to support exploration and is inviting partners to help unlock this frontier basin.

The African Energy Chamber (AEC) – as the voice of the African energy sector – wholeheartedly supports the decision to renew Haitham Al Ghais as the Secretary General of OPEC for a further three-year term, effective 1 August 2025. The renewal of Secretary General Al Ghais’ mandate was confirmed during the 189th meeting of the OPEC Conference, which concluded recently, affirming his significant contributions to the organization and the global energy sector.

As Secretary General, Al Ghais has been instrumental in navigating OPEC through a challenging energy landscape, characterized by fluctuating markets and evolving global demands. His leadership has not only strengthened OPEC’s role in global energy governance, but also fostered greater cooperation among member countries, promoting stability and sustainability within the oil market. Target Malaria, a not-for-profit research consortium, has launched an educational video game titled “Target Malaria: The Game”. Available for free in both French and English on Itch.io, the game invites players to step into the role of a lab technician specialising in the genetic modification of mosquitoes. This interactive tool offers a hands-on introduction to molecular biology, allowing players of all ages and backgrounds to explore the potential of genetically modified mosquitoes as a promising tool to fight malaria.
