COVID-19: The Youth Should Lead The Adherence To Government’s Directives

Youth Alliance for Development is ceasing this opportunity to appeal to young people across the country to play their role in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic currently confronting Ghana and the globe by sticking to all precautionary measures put up by the government to contain the virus.

We humbly appeal to the youth to strictly adhere to the measures and directive from the healthcare professionals and other stakeholders which includes social distancing throughout the entire period.

We are by this release condemning the act of those who trooped some beaches in the country in their numbers to entertain themselves during the Easter Sunday.

We also condemn the lawlessness that some communities have adopted to prevent government from using some facilities as isolation centers for suspected cases of covid-19.

We passionately appeal to our youth to stay away from any act that has the tendency of disrupting the effort to manage the situation.

We urge the security agencies and the Covid-19 taskforce, as a matter of urgency to institute stringent measures to control any act that has the tendency of negatively affecting the entire process.

Our Recommendation

  1. The youth must cease the opportunity to come out with more innovative ideas that will contribute to the probable solution of this pandemic. We must emulate the good examples of the Obuasi Sec Tech Students who invented the electronic bucket which has received a commendation from the President.
  2. We must not be a conduit for the spread of false news on covid-19 on social media platforms. It is our responsibility to verify every information we share.
  3. We must allow opinion leaders and stakeholders to dialogue on the use of some state facilities as isolation centres. We cannot express our disapproval through lawlessness. We must instead take necessary steps to protect ourselves and our families from the new disease to prevent the spread of the outbreak.
  4. We call on the Ghana Education Service to include Guidance and Counselling Sessions on the distance learning model to psychologically position our students to this type of learning.
