He has done digital paintings for your favorite celebrities and top personalities in Ghana, Meet Felix Modzaka, CEO of Felly’s Gallery

Digital art is gradually becoming common in Ghana with a lot of experienced hands already plying the market and Felix Modzaka, the founder of Felly’s Gallery, is one of them.

Digital art is an artistic work or practice that uses digital technology as part of the creative or presentation process. Since the 1970s, various names have been used to describe the process, including computer art and multimedia art. Digital art is itself placed under the larger umbrella term new media art.

Born and bred in Takoradi, Felix is a Voltarian from Nolopi in the Volta region of Ghana. He started digital painting in November 2017 but did his first commissioned piece early January 2018.

Felix has loved art from his early years on earth. He is a passionate young man who wishes to build a career from art.

After studying Visual Arts at the Senior High School, he was left jobless after completion so he started learning graphic designing as an apprentice.

After becoming an expert in 2years time, he realized the designing wasn’t making him enough money.

Turning Point

One day, whiles scrolling down his Facebook timeline, he saw a digitally painted picture by one of his friends.

“I immediately got interested so I paid him a visit. He gave me some videos to watch”, Felix told Wundef.com.

After watching and practicing what the video taught, he still couldn’t get the results he wanted.

Some days later, he saw another digital painting on Facebook by a senior high school friend.

“He took me through some series of processes until I painted a nice picture of Kalybos which he was happy about and that was when Felly’s Gallery was born.

Since 2018, Felix has painted more than 500 images including celebrities and top personalities in Ghana.

Felix hopes to become an artist recognized around the continent in the next five years.

The Artistic Mind of a Criminal

I used to have a client who is a professor when it comes to art, paintings and antiques. He paints one portrait and makes millions out of it and that really fascinated me so much that I started doing some research into the Art, paintings and antiques industry. I discovered that the painting industry in Ghana is very small and young but elsewhere in the world, it is a huge industry which contributes significantly to the economy of these countries. The USA economy in 2014 and 2015 benefited US$730 billion and US$763.6 billion respectively from the Art, Paintings and Antiques sector(1). US$12 billion (£9.2 billion) was contributed to the UK GDP in 2016 from the Art and Painting sector(2) with Singapore’s Art and Painting contributing S$2.13 billion to the GDP in 2013(3).
