Press Release by Girls Shall Grow on the Commemoration of the International Day of the Girl 2022

Today, the 11th of October 2022 marks the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl Child. It is a day that is annually celebrated since the year 2012 to emphasize and address the necessities and challenges girls deal with globally. It is meant to promote the rights of girls as well as highlight gender inequalities that remain between girls and boys.

The International Day of the Girl Child also focuses on promoting the empowerment of the girl child, establishing their values and seeks to provide people and organizations the opportunity to raise public awareness of the different types of discrimination and abuse that many girls around the world suffer. The International Day of the Girl Child also projects the opportunities the girl child has and what she can offer her world.
The theme for this years’ IDG is “Our Time is Now-Our Rights, Our Future”. Over the years, like a bird the girl child has been confined to a “cage” and told what she can or cannot do.

We at Girls Shall Grow join our voices with the millions of people around the world celebrating the girl child today to say that the time has come for that “caged little bird” to be allowed to break forth, dare to dream and become everything she wants to be.
The beginning of this new decade sees the dawn of a new age where the girl child like a bird is free to dream, explore, soar, and become anything she sets her mind to be.

A typical example is Francisca Lamini,a former student of Keta Senior High school in the Volta region of Ghana and the first female to get to the finals of the National Science and Maths quiz (NSMQ) for the past 8years.
She is currently studying at Harvard Medical school to become a medical doctor due to the help of some socia media influencers who propagated and projected the fact that Francisca has taken a bold step and therefore her efforts need to be applauded.

As part of our mandate and passion to see the girl child become an awesome woman tomorrow, we agree with this theme and pledge to continue in our efforts to ensure that the girl child is equipped with all the guidance and resources she needs to take charge of that promising future that awaits her.

The Artistic Mind of a Criminal

I used to have a client who is a professor when it comes to art, paintings and antiques. He paints one portrait and makes millions out of it and that really fascinated me so much that I started doing some research into the Art, paintings and antiques industry. I discovered that the painting industry in Ghana is very small and young but elsewhere in the world, it is a huge industry which contributes significantly to the economy of these countries. The USA economy in 2014 and 2015 benefited US$730 billion and US$763.6 billion respectively from the Art, Paintings and Antiques sector(1). US$12 billion (£9.2 billion) was contributed to the UK GDP in 2016 from the Art and Painting sector(2) with Singapore’s Art and Painting contributing S$2.13 billion to the GDP in 2013(3).
