A private businessman by name Emmanuel Bright Obeng Nyarko has made a donation GH¢100,000 to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Friday announced that the government has as part of efforts to combat the disease set up a fund to receive donations and contributions from the public to ease the social and economic distress of the poor and vulnerable.
Barely two days after the announcement, the man popularly referred to as Great Kofata presented an amount of GHC100,000 to help the government deal with the virus.
The Abossey-Okai spare parts dealer remarked that he owes the country a duty to offer help in these difficult times.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority who received the donation on behalf of the country was full of praise for the businessman’s patriotic gesture and appealed for more.
He assured Ghanaians that the government is doing everything possible to contain the virus.
In a related development, ministers and other appointees of the government have resolved to give 50% of their second-quarter salaries to the government.
Announcing the laudable decision, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said: “All Ministers of State, the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, the deputy Chiefs of Staff, Secretary to the President, Secretary to the Cabinet, Presidential Staffers and Presidential Aides at the Presidency have decided to donate fifty percent (50%) of their salaries.”
The President and his Vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia have also donated three months of their salaries to the country’s battle against the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
