Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has met with Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Ibok-Ete Ekwe Iban, to discuss concerns over the involvement of some Nigerian nationals in cybercrime activities in Ghana.
The meeting, held on February 16, 2026, reviewed the outcomes of Ghana’s recent crackdown on cybercrime and explored areas of cooperation aimed at strengthening digital security.
According to officials, the discussions focused on enhancing collaboration between the two countries to curb cross-border cyber offences and safeguard the digital ecosystem.
Ambassador Iban expressed concern over the arrests made during the operation and pledged support in addressing the root causes of cybercrime. He emphasized the importance of protecting law-abiding Nigerians residing in Ghana and called for stronger border and security coordination.
He also highlighted the longstanding diplomatic and economic ties between Ghana and Nigeria, urging Nigerian nationals to uphold the law and serve as positive representatives of their country abroad.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in the fight against cybercrime and promoting a secure digital environment.
