3 Black-Owned Hair Care Brands That Are Chemical Free

Hair care products for Black men and women generate billions of dollars in revenue every year. Sadly though, many of the companies that produce such products are not owned by Black entrepreneurs. Even worse, of the ones that are owned by Blacks, they are too often laced with chemicals and other harmful toxins.
But there are a few Black-owned brands out there that are chemical free – that is, free of parabens, sulfates, cocamide DEA, sulfuric acid, and other dangerous agents.

Here are just three of the top Black-owned brands that we recommend that are safe to use:

#1 – Iris Botanicals (Hair Growth): Iris Nichole Patterson, the CEO of Iris Botanicals, started the company in her kitchen in 2014. After suffering a terrible case of tension alopecia months before her wedding day because of careless removal of glued in hair extensions, she decided to do research on alternative methods to stimulate hair growth. In her research, she discovered many all-natural, chemical-free recipes. She now sells a full line of hair essentials packed with 7 powerful essential oils and protein.

#2 – Mysteek Naturals (Hair Color): Electra S. Davis, founder of Mysteek Naturals, is believed to be one of the first Black women to have created a chemical free hair color product. She started developing the product in 2016 because she was looking for an alternative to the rinses that weren’t giving her the vibrant popping color that she so badly wanted. She wanted to create a hair color product without the harmful chemicals and process of using a developer to bleach her hair, and she now sells a full line of all-natural hair color products in 13 different colors.

#3 – Hydrate Me Please (Hair Moisturizer): Developed by celebrity stylist April B, Hydrate Me Please™ is an all-in-one therapeutic moisture & growth system made to strengthen, grow, and to revitalize dull & lifeless hair. As a stylist she saw various conditions of the scalp as well as hair loss in many men, women and children. A lot of these conditions were a result of lack of moisture in the hair as well as poor hair maintenance as a whole. So, she developed a non-chemical system that has changed the lives of many.
